Bluffton Regional Medical Center receives 4-Star rating from CMS

BLUFFTON, Ind. (Feb. 22, 2018) – The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services recently recognized Bluffton Regional Medical Center amongst the best. Bluffton Regional received 4 out of 5 stars in the Overall Hospital Quality Rating.

CMS uses a 5-star rating system to compare how each hospital performs compared to other hospitals in the U.S. The most common rating for the most recent survey was 3-stars.

“It’s a testament to our entire team that we have risen to 4-star status,” said Brent Parsons, chief executive officer, Bluffton Regional Medical Center. “Our improvement in numerous categories, notably HCAHPS, which stands for Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems, has led to this climb. No hospital in northeastern Indiana has received a 5-star rating, but that is our objective.”

The overall star rating from CMS summarizes up to 57 quality measures, but the main categories that affect the rating are mortality rates, safety of care, readmissions, and patient experience scores. Bluffton Regional was rated a 3-star hospital in 2017.

To celebrate the progress Bluffton Regional has made, a banner has been hoisted outside of the hospital. Hospital and Bluffton Medical Group employees celebrated this recognition Thursday.  Parsons delivered a thank you and congratulated all employees for their individual efforts to make each of their areas a great place to work and for patients to receive care.
